Dillon Street bathroom renovation
Brief:
To achieve a high end finish on a tight turnaround and $30-40k budget. Leaving the layout as it currently is would be the most practical to achieve the latter of these two objectives, but that isn’t to say we can’t enhance that layout!
Victoria has done much of the legwork on design, bringing her own unique aesthetic and ideas, and she has engaged Tim Noone to construct the vanity.
This document brings together those ideas and elements, with a few added suggestions, and will form the basis for the imminent commencement of the reno!
Layout:
Issues:
Decor needs updating!
Little storage in the vanity
bath is large and spa jets not functional
shower could be larger
no underfloor heating
window could be replaced
Design objectives:
deeper, wall mounted vanity with more storage
shaving mirrors with integrated lighting above vanity and storage behind
underfloor heating
heated vertical towel rails
freestanding bath
single fixed fin shower screen on more spacious shower stall - rimless or black frame
trench drain
shower/bath indented shelving
modernise window
concrete vanity top with waterfall to bath side

Wall tiles:
I would suggest using two different wall tiles - one for behind the vanity and bath, and a contrast colour on the far wall. There are two choices - a dark and a light.
Tiles laid vertically, rather than horizontally as shown here. The reason for the contrast colour is that it gives a richness to the design but the darker, although reflected in the mirrors opposite, will not detract from the general lightness of the room.
Floor tile:
A terrazzo tile is very chic. This one has a warmth to it and would also look great with the concrete vanity top and both wall tiles.
Bath and basin:
Space is everything! A bath length maximum of 1200mm is a consideration as this will allow the fixed single fin shower screen. This is a short bath, but it’s a bath!!! Rather than have an above counter basin, I would suggest a custom made concrete vanity top with integrated basin.
Vanity:
Tim Noone to supply a wall mounted walnut unit with drawer detail as per Victoria’s image - suggest a possible rounded edge to the bath side with a concrete top following the curve, then narrowing to a ledge for the bath to the window wall.
Tapware:
Brodware Yokato disc series is a fabulous blend of ultra modern/organic. Bronze finish.
